Not sure if it changes anything but according to livescore Westerlo finished 7th and Standard 8th, not the other way round.

I checked the league standings against ours just before i closed it off. I checked on a couple of sites and they had it how it finished so I manually changed our 7th and 8th position. The deciding factor, in the case of two teams tied in the Belgian First Division Play off is their finishing position in the 'main' league. Liege finished 6th and Westerlo 7th

thx and sorry for confusion! it wasn't in self interest anyway as i had Standard down at 7th :) Happy for Antwerp, they used to be my favourite Belgian team when I was a kid (together with...Standard) and they don't win titles that often.

Fantastic title race, could have gone any way.

At Half Time, Genk were on pole position.
Union St Gilloise scored immediately in the second half to take top spot.

Antwerp equalise against Genk, only to then go behind 2-1

St Gilloise have a first title since 1935 in their sights…and then disaster strikes. Club Brugge equalise on 89 mins. Genk back on top! St Gilloise concede again on 90+3, their dream is over.

90+4 - Union had the title and lost it. Genk had the title….and then…

Toby Alderweireld, born in Antwerp, playing for his home town team, receives a layoff from outside the box. He fires first time into the top corner. Genk 2-2 Antwerp, and in the space of five minutes all three clubs have had a hand on the trophy!

Union, just to make matters worse, concede again on 90+10. Full time 1-3.

What a finish!

World Cup 1982 Alex Czerniatynski no.21
He was the only Antwerp player on the squad. I remember him well.

Actually to the beginning of the World Cup'82 he was no longer Antwerp player (he had reached the agreement with Anderlecht back in May), but he didn't play any official game for Anderlecht yet.

Now checking that he replaced Vandersmissen in 67th min in the 1Jul game vs USSR. He did play in the famous 0-3 vs Poland in the same R.2 group too
