Reading that some people are using Newsflash to post info like private league or 'only this long to predict' etc has made me think

Do we need another area for such posts ? Posts can so easily get lost in Discussion Forum especially when we get a stack of posts regards stats and the like. Do people read it enough or miss important information because they see something they aren't interested in perhaps ? I am not saying the stats are boring but if its not your thing you are more than likely to stay clear of it.

Would it be better if we had a discussion forum and an announcements forum ? That could be were we message Klaus with any changes etc or any fixture amendments and so on. Just a thought

Speaking of ideas and stats...

How about some overall players ranking (calendar year or last 365D)? If I'm correct, the only real general-type ranking we have is the Classic medals table (all-time and L365) but I'm thinking of one that would combine performance in all major contest as Classics, even though most valuable, is not the only official contest on here. We do have cluster rankings, but they refer to Classics only and are always limited to a number of comps.

Something like, for instance:
Drop out win - 1pt
Cup win - 2pts
League win - 2pts
Classic bronze - 3 pts
Classic silver - 5 pts
Classic win - 8pts
Rat race - ???
Not sure if the above is a proper balance so treat it just as illustratory figures.

Well doesn't the site also have discussion forums inside the private league?

Just tell them to make use of it. If they post private league information in their private league's discussion forum, everything's all right.

They don't do that though do they ? They use Newsflash as you have pointed out on at least two occasions now. I think people don't use the Private League forums because they probably don't know about it and they don't use Discussion Forum because they feel they are interrupting

All I am suggesting is maybe one for PG related posts - I always post in here if I have something for Klaus to amens etc. And maybe one for all the stats and non PG related posts.

Make that three occasions. Some relatively unknown player used it to say something in slovakian or something, sounded like a baltic language but I couldn't understand it.

Please, everyone, DO NOT USE THE NEWSFLASH FOR THINGS THAT DO NOT BELONG IN NEWSFLASH!!!

It's one of the points of the newsflash right?

Most of the news in the Newsflash is generated by the admin site (that is: Winner of Classic, Cup and occasionally League Contest, and the team that won the tournament).
Every player can add other news to the Newsflash, as long as it would belong in the Newsflash.

Perhaps keep it mod-only? Because this way, new players will use it in a wrong way as proven earlier.

Slovakia has no access to the Baltic, not until they invade Poland one day... :)) One thing I learnt in my life is that some people get very serious about such geographical misinterpretations so I am always very careful ;)

On your guessing game. It's almost impossible to guess your altID without any hints whatsoever. Is it registered in any comp besides World Cup yet?

It looks like the person you are trying to reach with regard to Newsflash maybe doesn't look at these messages. Maybe you'll have to put a message on Newsflash to get through to them. :-) (which would be a bit ironic :-))

Also, I just checked and another Russian guy used the Newsflash for something I assume is not Newsflash-related, so I guessed I might as well just do like you said.

There's now a message in the Newsflash which says just that.

Although I think that those that use the Newsflash in the way I described before don't even look at the Newsflash either, they just go to 'enter newsflash entry' and enter a newsflash entry.

Perhaps an administrator could add to the Enter newsflash entry section what I just added to the Newsflash itself? If so, thanks, I think that'd help the most.

Actually a newsflash should point to interesting/weird results in the jungle of prediction game contests.

I guess I should have added some kind of instructions to explain the purpose of this feature. Another point on my to-do-list...

After the World Cup this site will be back to normal and the misuse will stop anyway.

That was the intended point of Newsflash.

To get more people to contribute by putting remarkable results in the Newsflash.

Could I perhaps get a 'promotion' of some sort? That is, I can now only enter the results for darts matches (and also tennis and cycling somehow even tho I was never told I could), and I'd like to do more. For me, it's just for the results entering and not that much of entering fixtures, cup contests and whatever other admins usually do.

And I guess the Newsflash would be a good thing to keep but probably only with admins able to do it, if we see more people that misuse the Newsflash.

Probably you should change the place where it says Newsflash to just the Newsflash itself. Like, now you first have to click on Newsflash to get to the Newsflash, but why wouldn't you just put the Newsflash right there? I mean, if it WILL become admin-only, then you don't have to link to another section like the Enter newsflash entry.

Or: Administrators will check Newsflash entries to see if they're valid, before they appear in the Newsflash. Right now, if someone enters a Newsflash entry, it will straight away appear in the Newsflash. Perhaps admins could check entries submitted by non-admins before they pop up in the Newsflash?

TL;DR: I asked you, Klaus, if I could get promoted to be able to enter results for more matches, right now I can only enter darts match results (and tennis and cycling).
I suggested a few things regarding the Newsflash. In short:
1: You could keep the Newsflash but make it admin-only, so people won't misuse it.
2: You could put the Newsflash itself where the link to the Newsflash is right now.
3: You could keep the Newsflash, and everyone can still enter Newsflash entries, except every Newsflash entry submitted by a non-admin must first be checked by an admin for validity before it appears in the Newsflash.
